A veteran Indian film, television and theatre artist, Ramesh Deo is widely known for his roles in Hindi and Marathi film as well as drama. He started his career in the film industry in 1955, and over the years, has starred in more than 450 films as well as directed and produced several films, documentaries, and TV serials. A winner of several accolades and awards including State, National and International awards, Ramesh Deo, is loved and respected for his immense contribution to the film industry. He is also the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 11th Pune International Film Festival in 2013.
A nonagenarian, he continues to lead an active lifestyle and never shies away from hard work. Despite all the fame and success, he is still very humble and down to earth. Even during the pandemic, he keeps himself busy and continues to enjoy the simple pleasures of life like flying a kite and working in the garden.
An epitome of simplicity, grace and beauty, Seema Deo has been every Maharashtrian’s image of an ideal wife. An actress par excellence, she has several silver jubilee hits to her credit where she was the solo lead actress. At the tender age of twelve she started out as a group dancer in the ballet “Ram Shabri” and went on to carve a niche for herself in the world of theatre as well as cinema and has acted in over 250 Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati and Bhojpuri films. Ramesh Deo and Seema Deo, the first couple of Marathi cinema, made a mark in Bollywood as well with their endearing performance in the iconic movie “Anand”. Seemaji has been the recipient of several National and State awards and was also honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Pune International Film Festival.
Following in the footsteps of his parents, Ajinkya Deo gave up the lure of migrating to the United States to pursue a career in acting. In a career span of 38 years, he has acted in over 80 Marathi and Hindi movies, a couple of English movies and Hindi and Marathi television shows. He has won several State and National awards for his films and has also dabbled in direction and script-writing and won an award for the same. A highly compassionate and philanthropic person, Ajinkya has gained the love and adulation of fans in the state.
Starting the trust and doing work in the area of special needs was a natural progression for him as he always strives to make a difference to society.
His generosity and benevolence make him the Go-to person when anyone has a problem and he is always ready and willing to help, be it family, friends or even strangers. At the Academy, the children and staff look forward to his visits and especially love it when he plays with them during lunch time. He is a loving husband, an indulgent father, a doting son, an actor par excellence but what sets him apart is his compassion and his humility.
Arti Deo’s love for learning was evident very early in life as she has always been a first class student through-out and has done her Masters in Management Studies from Mumbai University. After her marriage to Ajinkya Deo she joined the family business where she helped in setting up the production house, Ramesh Deo Productions Private Limited, and was involved in various capacities as Producer, Director and Administrator. She is also a Professor at School of Business, NMIMS where she teaches Statistics and Decision Science to MBA students.
As the Director of the school, she is empathetic and diligent and leads by example. She doesn’t just talk the talk but walks it too, with dedication and compassion. She is always seeking to learn new skills and her quest for knowledge continues unabated. She is the only practitioner in the country to have completed all the advanced levels of the Anat Baniel Method NeuroMovement training.
She wears her multiple hats, of wife, daughter in law, mother, sister, director, professor with grace and sincerity and strives to add value and beauty to everything she does.
An architect by profession, Abhinay Deo soon migrated to the family business of films. However, unlike his parents and brother, he chose to remain behind the camera. He soon established himself as a director under all the verticals of film which includes commercials(TVCs), television shows and movies. He has over 450 TVCs to his credit. He also directed the super hit Hinglish film “Delhi Belly” among others. He has won innumerable national and international awards including the prestigious Gold Lion at Cannes. He is a springboard of creativity and continues to generate stimulating content for the various film platforms.
A “culinarist”, in her own words, Smita Deo is a celebrity chef with a huge following on YouTube for her shows “Get Curried” and “Ruchkar Mejwani” where her videos have garnered over a million views. She is the author of the sensational cookbook, “Karwar to Kolhapur via Mumbai” and has curated food festivals with several international hotel chains like The Trident and The Hyatt Regency. Full of joie de vivre, Smita who is generous to a fault, is always ready to help people, be it family, friends or strangers.
A lawyer by qualification, Rucha Ambekar has over 25 years of experience in varied functions such as Administration, HR and Finance. Her last stint of 13 years was with Cognizant Technology Solutions India Pvt. Ltd, where she was managing facilities totalling more than 5 lacs square feet, with more than 5000 people working there. She retired as Associate Director Administration. She was a part of an Outreach team which carried out different activities for the underprivileged and has also been a part of the Rotary organisation for the last 20 years. Her efficiency, Mathematical competence, diligence and attention to detail gives her a practical perspective and helps keep everyone grounded.
